Eric Adams Has Done an
Admirable Job Against The Odds

Op-ed by Rev.
Conrad Bennette Tillard

Eric Adams has done an admirable job, against the odds.  There was never anything to the case.

This case came about because he was enthusiastic in receiving migrants in New York City (he went to the busses to receive them) but he watched his city budget destroyed, with no help from the federal government. He then challenged the Biden administration to come up with a coherent border policy so that cities would not break their budgets, (which are designed to provide services for their residents) trying to handle what the federal government has the obligation of solving. For this he was told to be quiet and be a good Democrat.

Fighting for New Yorkers he took this hit. We all watched what was presented, there was no compelling evidence, no smoking guns! Now the case has been dropped.

Eric Adams is only the second Black mayor in the 400 year history of New York City. A working class brother who has climbed up from poverty in Brownsville and South Jamaica Queens, distinguished himself as a warrior against police brutality while he was on the police force, standing with many of us activists fighting Giuliani and the others and he had to go to work the next day at the NYPD.  I didn't, Rev. Sharpton didn't, Alton Maddox didn't, Rev Daughtry and Dr. Butts didn't, Mother Viola Plumber didn't but Eric did. He stood like a solid oak tree with the NYC activist community during the intense battles of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

Op-ed by Rev. Conrad Bennette Tillard On
NY City Mayor Eric Adams Continues Below...
Rev. Conrad Bennette Tillard

He has served in public service since then fighting for working New Yorkers of all races and cultures in Brooklyn and for the last four years as Mayor
! He has walked with Kings and never lost the common touch.

As the late great man of the people the Rev. Adam Clayton Powell before him, never lost his connection to the people, and encouraged them to simply call him Adam, our Mayor has not hid behind the high title of Mayor of the greatest city in the world, he has always remained simply Eric!

He has empowered people in our community, like never before, Black women, Black men and Latinos, and all marginalized groups, again like never before in this city! Sure he's a common sense Democrat, and in light of the election fiasco of the first Tuesday in November 2024 that's the kind of Democrat we need. Common sense oriented and unlike the Hollywood and Harvard crowd that has taken over the Democratic Party, Eric knows the real struggles of everyday New Yorkers from his lived experience (to use a Harvard phrase) and we trust him to lead us and fight for us!

Finally, if you've been around, we've seen this movie before. We had a Black Mayor, we put individual agendas in front of the collective good, he only got one term because we turned away from him. We ended up with eight long dismal and dark years of Rudolph Giuliani!

Our Mayor has been given a clean bill of health legally and politically. The time is now to rally behind him. His second term will be even better !

Eric Adams is of us, by us and for us (had to bite off of other Queens legends FUBU) he is approachable, accessible, reachable and teachable, he listens to our leadership. It would be insanity to turn out a Mayor as grounded and community oriented as Eric to take a chance on leftist wannabes who would turn New York into a dystopian hell hole with all of their "solutions " as they seek to turn New York City into a place for well heeled elites only, who can ride a 10 speed everywhere or have 10 dollars to pay to drive from Harlem to 38th street to get dialysis, indeed these competitors are what we used to call in the movement arm chair revolutionaries, that don't get it!

Let's stay the course, keep the continuity. Eric is our Mayor, whatever he needs to do a better job in, he is only a phone call away! The late great Buffalo New York Baptist preaching legend B.W. Smith preached a timeless sermon entitled, " You got what you wanted, and lost what you had!"

We made that mistake in 1989, let's not do the same thing in 2025!
