Looking ahead, BRN is excited to host its next event: an Educator Brunch on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, at Springfield Gardens High School. This event will celebrate Black educators in Queens and shine a spotlight on those educators who are also entrepreneurs.
Aleeia Abraham, the visionary and responsive Founder of the BlaQue Resource Network (the Moniker is a confluence of Black and Queens) has curated one of the most impactful groups in the history of Black organizations in Queens. Abraham and her dedicated supporters represent an energetic and committed group of advocates for community empowerment and upliftment.
The BlaQue Resource Network, boasts a membership that has grown to over 38,100 members and still expanding from its jumpstart on Facebook and is expanding to other social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Aleeia has received numerous awards from area leaders and organizations for her efforts.
Ms. Abraham feels there is an important and essential relationship between business development and education in making a viable and upwardly mobile community. She is a bit visionary in this regard since many mainstream educational institutions in the Black community, and the larger country as well, don't teach or emphasize entrepreneurship. Aleeia focuses on affirming educators who have an entrepreneurial leaning.
In a recent Op-ed Aleeia states "Educators are at the forefront of nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs. When teachers bring an entrepreneurial spirit into the classroom, they promote creativity, critical thinking and they inspire students to explore new ideas and take risks. These skills are essential not just for starting businesses, but for any kind of innovation and civic engagement that moves society forward. Teachers with an entrepreneurial mindset demonstrate the values of lifelong learning and adaptability to technological advancements. They show their students that education and creative problem-solving go hand in hand."
