Once Fired Executive Dawn Kelly
Now Vigorously Nourishes The
Health And Wealth Of
Southeast Queens And Brooklyn

Dawn Kelly, a graduate of the legendary HBCU Howard University, was later to become a well traveled executive - is now winning against the odds!  She was fired from a major corporation but pivoted to become a successful entrepreneur.

Dawn has built a viable noteworthy business and received a myriad of awards for her entrepreneurial acumen.  However, Ms. Kelly also has taken it upon herself to also inspire other area business people to succeed.

Therefore, she actually symbolizes a Nourish Spot for both health and wealth in our community.

Dawn is quick to admit her success was more possible because her daughter and son also bought into her vision and mission.  Their support helped her to build her multi-location and faceted business the Nourish Spot, into the thriving juicing, smoothie, and healthy food powerhouse it is today.

I was able to convince Dawn to graciously free up time from her hectic Nourish Spot entrepreneurial endeavors, and business advocacy schedule, to share with us how to build your business to succeed despite the odds.  Her full video and written interview synopsis follows below...

Kamau's Question:
Thank you Dawn for taking your time out of your business schedule as a business person and entrepreneurial mentor and advocate.  We really appreciate your service to our community.

Dawn, can you tell me a little about your background? Like where you grew up and maybe went to school?

Dawn's Answer
: Born in Harlem and raised in Queens. Attended  PS 112 in Long Island City, PS 147 and Sacred Heart in Cambria Heights and Martin Van Buren HS in Bellerose. Graduated from Howard University.

Kamau: Who or what inspired you to take the leap of faith and go into your health food and juice spot in South Jamaica Queens?

Dawn: My corporate role of 16 years was eliminated and I was searching for something new to do.  I was also on a personal health journey, seeking to decrease weight, blood pressure and doctor’s mention of pre-diabetes.

I was inspired by Styles P the rapper from the Lox to create my own. I saw a CNN news segment about him establishing Juices For Life and I was motivated to try founding my own as well.

True story — our new store in BedStuy, Brooklyn is a former Juices For Life location.

Kamau's Question: What makes your business unique from other juicing and health spots?

Dawn's Answer:... Our hospitality.  We also use the best quality alkaline and  coconut water, real wholesome fruits and vegetables, nectars, non dairy milks, nuts, seeds that Nourishers can customize into tailored food, beverage and tasty treat options.

Kamau's Question: Can you tell us about some of your goals and plans for the future of your business?

Dawn's Answer:... Our goals and plans include education and training, expansion, equity and licensing deals, stadium and cruise ship concessions, mass production & distribution of a few products in box retailers, partnerships with BIPOC farms.

Our goals also include scheduling fun programming like sip & paint, karaoke and live music and poetry readinga into our BedStuy location.

Kamau's Question:  What are some of the biggest hurdles in establishing your business and how did you overcome them?

Dawn's Answer:... The biggest hurdle is having knowledge about how to run a business efficiently, effectively and profitably.  I applied for and graduated from QEDC Business Essentials 101, Interise Streetwise MBA program; Goldman Sachs 10KSB, WOCSTAR GFS, Business Boost Society, and 1863 Ventures.

Kamau: What is the best way to contact you and support your business?

Dawn's Answer:... www.thenourishspot.com
IG/FB: @thenourishspot or @thenourishspotbk
TikTok: thenourishspotinc
