Longtime Global Prostate Cancer Advocate Kevin Byrd named Super Nova in Groundbreaking Interview
Kevin Byrd’s long, lengthy, and esteemed career as "the world’s foremost Prostate Cancer Awareness Advocate" begin at the tender age of 24. It all begin as a result of his grandfather being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
It is still very unusual for a young man to take up the work that Mr. Byrd has embarked upon during his twenties. Let’s take a glimpse into the extraordinary work Kevin Byrd has been doing over several decades.
Mr. Byrd started early in his career as a child actor in Utica, New York. What is unique about his journey is the length of time that he has been involved in advocacy as well as his deep level of human commitment through trials and tribulations.
It is a known fact that in the normal course of our lives we will all encounter roadblocks in life. Mr. Byrd through it all has found a way to consistently spread his message locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to make a difference on the planet.
As we take readers down memory lane to learn about the scope and depth of his life's mission (and work to uncover and shared multiple layers of his life) we hope it will empower others to be faithful to their dreams. Kevin Byrd is nationally known for his portrayal as Lt. John R. Fox in the 2006 History/HBO movie “Honor Deferred” produced by Al Roker. It starred Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac.
Lt. John R. Fox was a WWII hero who killed 100 German Soldiers in the War, died in action, and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, five decades after his heroic acts by President Clinton. The documentary picked up an Emmy/NAMIC Vision Award Nomination and garnered great reviews.

The likeness of Lt. John R. Fox was transformed into a G.I. Joe Action Figure by Hasbro the summer of 2008. The Common Council in the City of Utica, New York designated an honorary street “Brown Byrd Lane” sign to be placed on both ends of the street below the Pond Lane Signs.
The legislation was sponsored by Councilmembers Meola, Giruzzi, Vescera, Testa, Marino, McKinsey, Colosimo -Testa and Zecca Bucciero, 2012 for Black History Month.
Kevin Byrd’s work was entered into Congressional Record by Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, Bklyn, N.Y., 2013. He was also given the Long Island Business News Health Care Heroes Award for work at local chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
Later in 2013 Kevin Byrd was profiled on Verizon FiOS1 Show “Heroes on Long Island; 2016 Actor/Prostate Cancer Advocate/Founder Brown Byrd Foundation was featured on WABC Here and Now in 2017 which aired on in tri-state New York. Recently a special exhibit entitled History Maker: A salute to Contemporary African Americans was displayed at the Oneida County History Center, and soon thereafter his memorabilia was archived at the Oneida County History Center.

Kevin Byrd is the 1st living African American Male to be honored with a statue unveiling his life work for his efforts as a Global Advocate bringing awareness about Prostate Cancer around the world and fighting to make a significant difference around the world. His efforts have led a large number of individuals to participate in early testing and detection.
In May of 2023 Kevin Byrd, BA, LIU was inducted into Marquis Who’s Who in the Public Health Section of one of the world’s most prestigious publications. The 16th International Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Day was held during the month February 2024, during the month of Black History Month, and this year was the 12th time the Niagara Falls ILLumination Board of Directors has lit the falls blue in honor of the Brown Byrd Foundation’s work around the globe.
Kevin Byrd has held prominent positions in organizations as Health and Wellness Chairman for a local chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. and New York State's largest African American Chamber of Commerce the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. "Kevin Byrd is wise beyond his years, and his work is unparalleled in human history."
