LOREY HAYES, ORIGINAL CAST MEMBER OF NTOZAKE SHANGE’S ICONIC, HISTORY CHANGING PLAY, “FOR COLORED GIRLS”, PENS EXPLOSIVE BOOK OF CHOREOPOEMS: SONG OF SILENCE, POEMS FOR THE SOUL

Multi-Award-Winning Playwright, Actress, Director, Producer, Lorey Hayes has dared to share her auspicious insights and expose the raw edges of her emotions on Race, Love, Family in her first published book: Song of Silence, Poems for the Soul.  Available for purchase on Lorey’s Website: Click Here

In this brave journey of poetic offerings, lovingly called Choreopoems (the word coined by the late writer Ntozake Shange when her play For Colored Girls made Broadway History) Hayes exposes the hypocrisy of a nation riddled with shame for its ungodly acts against the humanity of the African American race; while at the same time, praising and uplifting the brave souls of people of color, who continue to strive to overcome stigmas, abuses and generational curses that sought to bind them.  Hayes shares the joys and jubilations that have kept her people (people of color – Hayes is African-American and Cherokee) afloat and allowed them to carve a revered place in the annals of history.

Song of Silence (namesake of the book) is a “call to arms” against homelessness and hunger in this American “Land of Plenty”; as it challenges readers to “pay attention” and speak out about this devastating and debilitating escalating crises.
From The Devil, where a five year old girl looses her innocence while the adults who promised to protect her, cluelessly engage in conversation; Racists are not Born, they’re Bred, where a young white boy learns racism from his father; to her signature pieces We Black Women Spirit, Warriors an uplifting, inspiring praise song for Women of Color; Ode to the Black Man, that celebrates African American Men and Women’s connection from the beginning of time and GRANDMA JANIE,  a salute to and in honor of Grandmothers.

Black History Month Special

Thirteen Notable African American Seniors And Elders Who Died Recently, African American History Month Special Edition: Celebration of Life

By HBCU ECSU Gheechee Gummee Author, Dr. Charles L. Singleton

Black History, African American History Month, established by Carter G. Woodson (historian, author, and writer) on February 7, 1926, ninety-six years ago. In a few written words, I will share with you 13 African Americans whose lives were impactful 360 days of every year, who lived on this earth.

I wish I had time to tell you about all who have passed away during this time of a worldwide pandemic called Covid-19, An Airborne Illness Possibility, Aerodynamically Fashioned "With Persistent Mutative" Transmittable Omnipresence (AAIPADFWPMTOP). This highly mutative contagious sickening and deadly illness is traveling at Earth's speed of 67, 000 miles per hour, or 1.6 million miles a day around the sun, or 19 miles a minute, some 86, 400 seconds per day: 0.0041666 degrees per second (Quora, DuckDuckGo, Space. Com).

Every day the Earth Spins, and Covid-19 also travels at 1000 miles an hour, or 460 meters per second on its axis, about 5 U.S.A. football fields (Scientific America). Once again, Earth’s orbital speed and Covid-19 does too, allows completion of its journey in 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.09053 seconds, approximately every 24 hours around the sun, while spinning on its axis 1000 miles per hour, or 1600 kilometers per hour, almost 460 meters per second (Scientific America).  Therefore, I will only have time to mention a few lines about these brave warriors of rightfulness, who have gone on before, in quotes, songs, books, music, media coverage, military and government leadership, legacies and achievements. For those of you who are living today, lets read and read more. These earthly legendary seniors and elders are as follows:
