"I WOKE UP A BLACK MAN" BY JAMELL CROUTHERS IS A CONTROVERSIAL BOOK THAT TACKLES RACE IN AMERICA

Prose writer and author Jamell Crouthers has written I Woke Up a Black Man, his most profound book that tackles race in America. It's a fictional story from the perspective of a white man who wakes up a Black man.

Jamell writes a book that speaks on racism in America and by utilizing role reversal, he’s able to put Eric (a white man) into his best friend Warren’s shoes (a Black man). This story delves deep into the N word, Black culture, how the police treat Black men, and how racism plays a role in how Black men operate and conduct themselves in society.

The book cover created by Jamell was the most important component to this story. He says, “The goal is to get reader’s attention right away, the book cover has symbolism to it and the quote at the top was the icing on the cake.”

Book reviews from readers say, “This book is a great read for just touching the basics of the black experience! In this creative fiction it hits a little home because it’s all in all reality. Engaging and an easy read for anyone looking to expand their consciousness of the hardships POC endure.”

Another review of the book, “This is one of those books that should be required reading for everyone. As one sided as it seems, it really isn't. If you are black, then you already know what it is like. If not, then this book is for you. This is an accurate report/reflection on the truth. Read it, understand it and make it for the future.”

Jamell is the author of many other book titles such as:

The Struggles and Growth of a Man
Code Blue: An Oath to the Badge and Gun
One Drink Too Many and Kids With Guns.
