Black Business Owners Forum 2021: Level Up! Virtual Forum Puts Entrepreneurs In Good Company To Expand Access To Opportunities

JAMAICA, NY – Entrepreneurs, legislators, city and federal agencies, prime contractors,  construction managers, publicly and private non-publicly traded funding institutions, and  community business leaders virtually gathered to provide vital information, essential resources,  technical assistance and networking opportunities during the 2nd annual Black Business Owners  Forum 2021: Level Up (BBOF2021) virtual event.

BBOF2021 sessions and panels also featured funders, community-based organizations, civic  leaders and small business subject matter experts. NYC Department of Small Business  Services Commissioner, Jonnel Doris, provided greetings at the forum inviting participants from the Big Apple to explore and take advantage of the myriad business resources New York City offers its residents, free of charge. Dr. George C. Fraser, Chairman and CEO of FraserNet, Inc. and one of the nation’s foremost authorities on economic development, challenged the attendees to evolve as they learn how to "level up" their business. He also shared concrete  steps to network and build effective relationships.

Danielle Douglas
Small businesses undergird the nation’s stability. Small businesses employ nearly half of all U.S. workers and often bear great responsibility in building the ecosystem of our communities, said Danielle Douglas, President of Inspire Enterprise, Inc. and Founder of BBOF2021.

“The health and viability of small businesses and communities are interdependent.  Therefore, we need to provide small business owners the tools and resources necessary to thrive. The  panels, arranged with intention, were comprised of individuals committed to playing a vital role to ensure minority and women owned business enterprises are contract ready, have access to resources and are poised for growth,” continued Douglas.

The Black Business Owners Forum’s agenda included conference sessions: Navigating New  Terrain: Gain Access to the Corporate Sector; Securing the Bag: Use Capital to Expand Your  Business; and Living the Vision: Positioning Your Business for Bigger Opportunities and  Elevating Your Game: Maximize Resources for Growth. Some of our noteworthy Moderators  and Panelists included Corey Smith, Head of Diversity & inclusion, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Inc.; Luc El-Art Severe, J.D., Vice President, Small Business and Workforce  Development; United Way, and Jumoke Fagbayi-Butts, V.P., Sr. Business Consultant, Minority  Entrepreneurs.

“The robust BBOF agenda equipped participants with real-time experiential guidance regarding  business development and contract procurement,” says Douglas, Queens, NY resident.  “BBOF2021 informed, instructed and inspired entrepreneurs by offering access to capital, contracts, and business development strategies. We thank our sponsors.”

More than 100 people attended the virtual all-day conference sponsored by LVMH, JPMorgan Chase & Co., NYC Department of Small Business Services, BE NYC, Columbia University Facilities & Operations, McKissack & McKissack, Skanska, Northwell Health, TSIB, LSQ, and LISCNYC.

BBOFs’ mission aligns with the LISC NYC platform of racial and economic equity which is  stood up by our three pillars—radical healing, inclusive economic transformation, and sustainable wealth generation. We are excited to partner with BBOF2021 and support their mission to help small Black-owned businesses ready themselves for new opportunities in the wake of COVID.

As part of our pillar to promote sustainable wealth generation, we are delighted to be able to interact and cultivate relationships with the entrepreneurs and the  nonprofits that support them in gaining access to opportunity, access to capital, viable skills building and networking as we all work together to remove the barriers of systemic inequities,” said Valerie White, Executive Director, LISC NYC
Inspire Enterprise Inc., a boutique business advisory S-Corp firm focuses on building the capacity of minority and women owned business enterprises.

Established in January 2007 by Douglas, a Cambria Heights, NY resident, Inspire Enterprise helps small businesses increase their profitability and productivity to expand their social value and positive impact on their customers, families, employees, and communities. Douglas also founded the nonprofit organization, The Council for Black Business Enterprises, which collaborates with major stakeholders and anchor institutions to increase the number of black owned businesses in the  pipeline to earn procurement contracts from the government and private sectors.
