The Historic USA COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Begins With RN Sandra Lindsay In Queens
RN Sandra Lindsay First American To Get COVID-19 Vaccine

On Monday, December 14th, the first American and first New Yorker was administered the recently approved COVID-19 vaccine outside of trial. Sandra Lindsay, RN is a critical care nurse who works on the frontlines of the pandemic at Long Island Jewish Medical Center here in Queens. Administering the shot was Dr. Michelle Chester, the Director of Employee Health Services. New York received 170,000 doses of the vaccine upon its approval by the FDA.

This is a monumental day that offers us the biggest and brightest glimmer of hope that we've received since the beginning of this pandemic. Today, as I celebrate this news, I also reflect on the more than 300,000 Americans who we have lost to this awful disease since March.

The COVID-19 vaccine will be administered first to nursing home residents and health care workers, followed by long-term and congregate care staff and residents and EMS. Dr. Anthony Fauci indicated that the majority of low-risk individuals should expect vaccine availability in the early spring.

Get the facts on the COVID-19 vaccine here.

Senator James Sanders Jr.'s Statement on the Passing of Former NYC Mayor David Dinkins

I am deeply saddened by the passing of David Dinkins. As New York City’s first and only African-American Mayor, he was a trailblazer who worked diligently to unify the city during a time of much racial strife, violence and economic inequality, yet he does not get the accolades he truly deserves. I, and others, stand on his shoulders.

He set the foundation for the work that could be later accomplished to transform this city. He inherited challenging circumstances and he rose to the occasion.

Senator James Sanders jr.

David Dinkins served in the Marine Corps from July 1945 through August 1946, attaining the rank of private first class. As a Marine Corps veteran myself, I can tell you that Marines lead from the front and that's what David Dinkins did. He increased affordable housing to reduce homelessness, tackled the HIV/AIDS epidemic and decreased crime by creating the "Safe Streets, Safe City" program.

David Dinkins accomplished so many great things during his long and illustrious life that it would take many pages to name them all. He saw the city as a "beautiful mosaic," and I think that it something we all strive to celebrate and preserve. He was a role model and inspiration to many and he will be greatly missed.

NYC ENTREPRENEUR RAYKI TAI TURNED DEBILITATING ILLNESS INTO GROUNDBREAKING NATURAL HAIR CARE BRAND

Nationwide  -- Wholesome Hair Co, founded by Jamaican/Nigerian entrepreneur Rayki Tai, emerged onto the natural hair care scene with a vegan product line in February 2020. Customer feedback prompted Rayki Tai to address what sets Wholesome Hair Co. apart from others in the natural hair industry. Her story is profound.

In the 1980s, Rayki went from a haunting conversation about hair with her mother right before she died, to living in a Nigerian boarding school struggling to manage her own hair. Rayki’s subpar hair grooming violated school standards, and one day Rayki was berated in front of the entire student body by the vice principal, who decided to shave Rayki’s head bald. As an unwilling twelve year old, Rayki creatively negotiated a deal with the vice principal to let her keep her hair.

After returning to the United States years later, Rayki had an unfortunate incident with a lighter that left her near bald. Desperate for a way to regrow her hair quickly, Rayki tried many products with big claims of fast hair growth. However, the growth was gradual.

Chamber Executives States “Chamber Development and Leadership Development Vital To Black Business Growth Across America”

By Phil Andrews

National News – Chamber Executives States “chamber development and leadership development is vital to black business growth Across America” during COVID-19 Crisis, and Post COVID-19.  It is no secret that Black Businesses in America have suffered a tremendous loss during this recent pandemic.

Chamber development and leadership development plans and strategies must work in parallel together to foster business growth in the Black Community in a sustainable manner many years into the future.  Corporate support of diversity initiatives in the Black Community will continue to play a vital role in leveling the playing field in America.

“As President of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. we have seen the direct correlation between chamber development and leadership development in the business sector as an opportunity to not only return businesses to prior levels, but help them to fuel their growth to the next level.”  Phil Andrews, President – Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. – New York State’s largest African American Chamber of Commerce and the New York District Office of the United States Small Business Administration.

Coincidentally, our chamber launched our campaign to Retool, Refocus and Rebuild Black Business in New York State in November of 2019 prior to the Covid-19 crises. At that time we decided to  raise the bar for what it means to be a black chamber in New York State. As chambers of commerce such as ours continue to evolve we believe that it will result in significant growth of Black Businesses across a variety of industries.

Since our chamber was founded we have actively provided a wide variety of programs and activities geared towards increasing our member’s capacity to grow their respective business enterprises to the next level.  The Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. stands firm on our chamber’s ability to impact the scope, size, and growth of small business owners in our region for many years into the future.  See information about Wish & LIAACC: The Wish Local Empowerment Program below!

AUTHOR EMMANUEL KULU BRINGS A NEW PERSPECTIVE TO ANCIENT EGYPTIAN HISTORY IN HIS NOVEL "I, BLACK PHAROAH RISE TO POWER"

Buffalo, NY -- Author/ African historian Emmanuel Kulu, Jr. has faced racism for his controversial novel, I, Black Pharaoh: Rise to Power. In early 2019, Kulu began his campaign restoring the true African origins of Ancient Egypt. Upon posting his book cover via social media, Kulu received massive amounts of death threats, racist comments, and hate emails regarding the cover.

"I was constantly called a monkey, nigger, slave and accused of stealing history and black washing Ancient Egypt. This happened so often that it made me want to give up, I felt discouraged and figured that the world is not opening minded enough to expect the deceptions of past. My father, Emmanuel Kulu, Sr. advised me to continue the path of truth and understand those who oppose are unaware to the knowledge you have acquired in your studies," said Kulu.

Following the death of his father on September 27th, 2019, Kulu recalled the words of his father and continued his campaign of lectures titled, "The Mystery of Ancient Africa: A Stolen Legacy restored". Mr. Kulu has given many seminars and lectures in schools like the University of Buffalo, Malcolm X College, Buffalo State College, UCLA, and many other Universities and high schools. Upon his thorough research, Kulu uncovered that the original people of Egypt did not resemble those of European/ Mediterranean decent.

RENOWNED CELEBRITY PHOTOGRAPHER TRICIA MESSEROUX RECREATES ICONIC SOCIAL AND RACIAL JUSTICE LEADERS WITH YOUNG BLACK AND BROWN BOYS AND GIRLS

New York, NY -- Tricia Messeroux, creator of Toddlewood, a highly celebrated photography project, which has been featured by A-list media like Access Hollywood, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, The Tamron Hall Show, and the Huffington Post - just to name a few - is taking on a new challenge to contribute to the Black Lives Matter movement with kids ages 7-12 years old.

For the past ten years, Tricia and Toddlewood have been recreating images of Hollywood royalty, red carpet moments, movie posters, and notable moments in time. This time, as the nation focuses on advocating for social and racial justice, the creator of Toddlewood has shifted her attention away from the red carpet limelight in order to get involved in BLM in the best way she and Toddlewood know how - through a unique, creative, photographic campaign featuring Black and brown kids.

This summer, Team Toddlewood, led by photographer, Tricia Messeroux, is in full production of the "Toddlewood Engineers of Equality Project" that will recreate, with a few lucky children, over 40 iconic images of social justice heroes and sheroes both past and present. Such notables will include Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the late and great John Lewis, Angela Davis, Nina Simone, Ava Duvernay, Shaun King, Kendrick Lamar, Nelson Mandela, and more. Each child who will portray these racial and social justice icons has been meticulously chosen from over 3000 photo submissions by moms and dads from all over the United States.

Well Regarded Community Based Black-Owned Laundromat Expands To Offer COVID-19 Clean Up Services
Reach Metro Laundry Delivery Service at: 516-234-9187

While COVID-19 infections and deaths in NYC are in sharp decline, the sharp incline in cases nationally, who have eased restrictions on lifestyle issues like masks, gloves, and good cleaning procedures illustrates the point -- we should continue to be careful and vigilant fighting the Coronavirus. A local Black-owned laundry service Metro Laundry Service, is looking to clean up the Coronavirus spread in Southeast Queens.

New York City, was the most adversely impacted area by COVID-19. Also Queens was once the most adversely impacted area in New York City.  The Metro Laundry Service, located at 196-16 Linden Blvd, in Jamaica, Queens, 11412 (Call: 516-234-9187), is stepping into the mix to offer pickup laundry cleaning services to keep residents safe practicing social distancing by customers not having to take trips to the laundry in person.

Metro Laundry Service was founded by Maxine Howell, and has been in existence since October of 2011. Starting her business in 2011 made sense because all nine of her children were no longer depending on her raising them. The thought of going back to work as nursing assistant was not something she looked forward to so she decided to add a valuable service to our community.

With the spread of COVID-19 she is working harder to stop the spread by providing a high quality environmentally friendly laundry service where people in our community don't have to defy social distancing guidelines when visiting a laundromat and therefore avoid the risks associated with large numbers of people in closely contained spaces in NYC.
