The Network has given numerous meals to essential and front-line health workers during the Coronavirus pandemic. They have also sponsored business crawls and awareness to support Black owned community businesses in the past raising thousands of dollars at various events. Jamaica and Southeast Queens were red zones in Queens, which at one time was the most concentrated area for COVID-19 infections and deaths making BlaQue's contributions all the more important.
The BlaQue Resource Network (BlaQue is short for Black Queens) recently received a $3000-dollar grant from Queens Together to distribute healthy food dishes to families of Southeast Queens. The BlaQue Resource Network is collaborating with the New York Police Department from the 113th, 103rd, and 105th Precincts, Southeast Queens restaurants, community leaders, and local performing artists to assist with the BlaQue Resource Network’s #ShareHealth campaign.

The BlaQue Resource Network secured a $3000 grant from Queens Together. Queens Together is a clearinghouse for food scarcity during the Covid-19 crisis and beyond. Collaborations champion their goal to bring Queens together with local organizations with the network and reach to help accomplish their overall mission.
The BlaQue Resource Network promotes sharing resources and healthy eating habits in Southeast Queens. The family-sized dishes consist of vegan and vegetarian food. Persons who attend the “Share Health” event receive one of One hundred twenty family-sized dinners prepared by local Southeast Queens restaurants. People also receive a share of 3000 pounds of fresh produce secured by the BlaQue Resource Network.
The 2016 community health needs assessment conducted by NYC Health+Hospitals rated hypertension, diabetes, and mental illness as the top three health issues identified at Queens Hospital. The BlaQue Resource Network will combat these issues by distributing only vegetarian and vegan foods. In response to the growing mental illness concerns, the BlaQue Resource Network will use the event to share resources with persons who may have trouble coping with the Covid-19 lockdown.
Each person gets a reusable bag provided by the US Census. The reusable bags have coupons, masks, gloves, water, and other items from businesses in Southeast Queens.
The New York Police Department is collaborating with the BlaQue Resource Network to build positive community relationships. Officers from the 103rd, 113th, and 105th Precincts distribute masks and other essential items during the Covid-19 pause.
The participating restaurants are Golden Krust, Panash Eurosoul, and A Live Kitchen. Local organizations, including:
not-for-profit Daughters of Zion International Ministries Inc.
Warriors for Christ
Friends of Tim Turane Inc.
Jars of Delight
members of the BlaQue Resource Network, and
Queens performing artists...
...are volunteers to help distribute dishes.
The BlaQue Resource Network is an online community conceptualized on Facebook. Since its inception in 2019, the group has exceeded 4500 members.
The group is an online space for Black people of Queens to network and share resources. The group’s founder, Aleeia Abraham, received a proclamation from New York City Council during Black History of 2020 in recognition of her efforts in growing the space into an active change agent for Southeast Queens.
