DENNY'S TO SERVE AS PRESENTING SPONSOR OF THE 2019 NCNW HUNGRY FOR EDUCATION HBCU TOUR
Spartanburg, SC -- As part of a national campaign to raise awareness about hunger and increase access to education, Denny's has partnered with National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW), the Tom Joyner Foundation and PUSH Excel to sponsor the 2019 NCNW Hungry for Education Tour of seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The tour, organized by NCNW, marks the seventh year of the Denny's Hungry for Education Scholarship Program. The major initiative kicked off with a press conference at 10 a.m. August 16 at the NCNW national headquarters' Dorothy I. Height Building, 633 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. John Miller, Denny's president and CEO, April Kelly-Drummond, head of Diversity, Equality, Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement, Johnnetta Betsch Cole, NCNW's national president, and Janice Mathis, executive director of NCNW, will be among the officials participating in the event, which is open to the media.
Beginning in September 2019, the NCNW 2019 HFE HBCU Tour will visit seven campuses in six cities to encourage college enrollment, academic excellence, and career preparation for students of all backgrounds. Tour stops will be South Carolina State University and Claflin University, Orangeburg, S.C. (Sept. 7); Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, Fla. (Sept. 14); Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, Ga. (Sept. 21); Howard University, Washington, D.C. (Sept. 28); Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio, (Nov. 2); and Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas (Nov. 6).

Birmingham, AL -- In 2017, Maria Watkins, an African American entrepreneur, founded the RightThere Corporation (RTC). The organization was incorporated in 2018 with an exemplary board of directors, including a retired police captain as board chairman. The RightThere Corporation is now among the first to offer a formidable, technological solution for civilians who fear the threat of police misconduct and other potentially dangerous situations.
RightThere Corporation is using technology to accomplish their mission of preventing police misconduct and reducing civil rights violations and to make justice work for all. Nationwide -- Adom Appiah, a fifteen-year old student athlete and former Scripps National Spelling Bee participant, has written a third book to motivate children. The book, Kids Can Change the World - Young Readers' Edition, has been accepted by the Library of Congress.
A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) writing program, Adom wrote his first book, Kids Can Change the World, in June 2017. His second book, titled Bouncing Back from Failure, was released in July of 2018. Whereas the first book encourages kids to turn their passion into progress, the second book offers an uplifting perspective for kids facing disappointment.

Profits Soar For Black-Owned Dope Women Designs

Nationwide -- We all know that Black women and men are DOPE, but when the
founder of Black Girl Powerhouse, LLC (BGPH), Brenda Hampton, created
the DOPE Collection, she never predicted the designs would send her
company's profits through the roof. Consumers love the collection, and
many have shared photos of their purchases, along with the DOPE images,
across social media platforms.
The images have sparked the attention of many other retail businesses that have been eager to obtain a licensing certificate and turn a profit too. Hampton's decision to share BGPH's creations with other businesses was an easy decision.
She and her partners truly believe in helping other businesses thrive, especially those managed by Black women. "We are thrilled to work with other retailers, and as we continue to build our brand, we look forward to helping other businesses grow with us," Hampton says.

The images have sparked the attention of many other retail businesses that have been eager to obtain a licensing certificate and turn a profit too. Hampton's decision to share BGPH's creations with other businesses was an easy decision.

Nationwide -- Half of black American women report that they experience
severe stress, while only a quarter of Caucasian women in the US report
extreme stress. Research indicates that black women are also more
likely to experience major depression and anxiety disorders, and Black
women's symptoms are more severe than those of their white counterparts.
In addition, African American woman are disproportionately affected by stress-related diseases like hypertension, obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Akhu, an expert in stress management, shows women of color how to stop running on empty so they can think, feel, and live better, with increased joy and decreased stress.
"The first step toward alleviating the heavy weight carried by the 'strong black woman', as well as addressing the resulting mental and physical damage, is the practice of self-care," explains Dr. Akhu, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and founder of the Redefining the Strong Black Woman movement.

Washington, DC -- Andrea Stephenson was a full-time working mom who
thought her son would learn the alphabet by the age of 3 or 4. However,
by utilizing fun and playful in-depth learning methods, her son spoke in
full sentences at 18 months, started spelling and reading at 21 months,
could write the alphabet and numbers by 27 months, and do
multiplication by 36 months.
Now, she wants to show parents that all children are capable of doing this in a natural, playful environment without flashcards. Andrea is often approached by parents asking about her son’s abilities. So, she has created an online course called "Teach Your Toddler to Read Through Play".
