BLACK NEWS CHANNEL ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF RE-BRANDING EFFORTS
J.C. Watts, Jr., Chairman; and Ledisi, American Recording Artist
Tallahassee, FL -- Black News Channel (BNC), the nation's only African American news network, has revealed its new brand identity and logo after months of consumer research. With the efforts of partners like Screen Engine/ASI and the Carol H. Williams Advertising agency, BNC's executive team has been to the top of the mountain and back in order to pinpoint the network's precise look and feel that will be authentic to its target audience of African Americans.

Screen Engine/ASI is a Los Angeles, California based research and analytics firm specializing in the entertainment and media spaces. Using African American focus groups in Los Angeles, New York City, and Atlanta - as well as a national sampling of more than 1,400 African American participants, Screen Engine/ASI tested BNC's audience assumptions, key messages, branding, and programming goals.

From the data gathered over the past several months of study, Screen Engine/ASI produced a Topline Study report revealing its findings.

"It was important for BNC to verify its audience assumptions and to know with certainty the types of news stories and coverage African Americans want to see reflect their community and experiences," says Kevin Goetz, founder and CEO of Screen Engine/ASI. "The research has been clear; African Americans have a strong desire to see a wider range of representation, especially when it comes to news that depicts more inspirational and uplifting figures."

FORMER DAYCARE OWNER TURNS CHILDREN'S PROJECT INTO POPULAR SWEET TREATS AND INCUBATOR SPACE FOR CULINARY ARTISANS

Natasha's Just Brittle has been added to a 2019 Visit Baltimore crowdfunding campaign launched to keep doors open

Baltimore, MD -- Natasha Wainwright is a Baltimore-based entrepreneur who previously founded and ran an eco-friendly daycare, Progress Place Learning Center (PPLC). Natasha's Just Brittle was conceived in summer 2009 as part of a business fundamentals learning project for the children at her daycare. PPLC Sweet Treats, the daycare's made-to-order sweet shop, sold over $500 in confections that summer. The brittle was the most popular item and was in high demand from the community long after, sparking the creation of Natasha's Just Brittle and an opportunity to present and sell-out on QVC.

"Although we sold-out of brittle on QVC, I did not have space or staff to manufacture the volume of handcrafted brittles and that is why I opened B'More Made with Pride Commercial Kitchen to support myself and fellow culinary artisans," says Natasha. "This is a game changer for small businesses, however, I cannot keep the doors open without the support of the people."

A crowdfunding account is active on iFundWomen/B'More Made with Pride Commercial Kitchen at https://ifundwomen.com/projects/bmore-made-pride-commercial-kitchen

RICHMOND, Va., March 27, 2019 -- Last week, Virginia's 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution partnered with the Virginia Council of Churches and the Samuel DeWitt Protector School of Theology at Virginia Union University (VUU) to present the scholarly conference, Faith Journeys in the Black Experience: 1619-2019. The conference gathered theological scholars and historians from across the country to examine the religious context of Virginia in 1619, its impact on African Americans, and the evolution of a religious and culturally diverse United States in the 21st century.

he summit explored the faith journey of Africans and African Americans over 400 years, beginning in 1619 when the first Africans were enslaved and forcibly migrated to the Virginia colony. During the conference, scholars presented papers that will be edited and published in 2020.

"Faith Journeys in the Black Experience provided us with a timely opportunity to convene experts from across the country to examine the lost religious traditions of Native Americans and the first Africans who were forcibly migrated to the Virginia colony in 1619," said Dr. Lauranett Lee, Summit Moderator and Visiting Lecturer, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond.  "The United States has a painful history of racism, so it's important to continue having these conversations about religious and cultural traditions in an increasingly diverse society."

During an extraordinary night, UNCF (United Negro College Fund) locally celebrated its 75th anniversary March 16 at its Milwaukee UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball. Raising $300,000 for deserving students and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), the event commemorated the founding of the organization by Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) president Dr. Frederick Douglass Patterson with backing from corporate leaders led by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and Coca Cola President Robert W. Woodruff.

Beverly Fontenot's New Book “Using Noah to Backtrack History for Children” Explores Turkey’s Mount Ararat to Turkey’s Ottoman Empire to Identify the Colors of Nations
Beverly Fontenot Photo Courtesty Farmville Herald
Recent release “Using Noah to Backtrack History for Children” from Page Publishing author Beverly Fontenot summarizes stops made along the way by Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. These stops have attributed to differences that evolved between populations or nations.

Beverly Fontenot, an avid student of various cultures and appearances, has completed her new book “Using Noah to Backtrack History for Children”: an enlightening tale that exposes children to the differences between societies and races.

Fontenot writes, “Eve and Noah both lived before the flood. Eve was Noah’s ancient grandmother. Eve and her children lived in ancient Africa. Eve was born in Tanzania. Tanzania is in Africa. Because Eve lived in Tanzania, her skin was created dark. Her dark or “black” skin protected her body from the hot African sun. Her first generations were created with very dark skin exactly like hers. This dark skin protected them from the hot African sun too. When they left this hot African sun, their skin color adapted to their new climates. Many of these new climates to which they migrated were outside continental Africa."

UNCF Celebrated Its 75th Anniversary Raising Over $500,000

NEW YORK — UNCF (United Negro College Fund) celebrated its 75th anniversary just a few days ago in the Big Apple. While always a significant player in the organization’s fundraising efforts, New York City has also had a unique tie to UNCF—75 years ago, the organization was founded and incorporated there with the help of many noted business leaders and philanthropists of the time. The March 21 event honoring supportive New York corporations and philanthropists, including long time UNCF advocate and education changemaker former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, raised more than a half a million dollars to invest in UNCF’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and the deserving students that attend them.
Edward Lewis, co-founder of Essence magazine, served as honorary co-chair, during which Bloomberg accepted the UNCF Lifetime Achievement Award for being a long-time advocate of UNCF. The UNCF Shirley Chisholm Award was presented to CUNY Trustee Dr. Una S.T. Clarke by her daughter, U.S. Rep Yvette Clark (D-NY). For its continuous support over the years, Delta Air Lines was honored with the UNCF Corporate Partner Award.

“There are millions of Americans who, over 75 years, have invested in UNCF and better futures for our students, and through that success, for all of us,” said Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO of UNCF. “Tonight, we raised the resources our HBCUs need to do their invaluable work. Tonight, we fund scholarships that narrow the gap between college costs and family resources. And together, we change the narrative of our HBCUs, which help strengthen and elevate a new generation of young, black and gifted students.”

NEW BOOK REVEALS THE ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF THE 100 GREATEST AFRICAN AMERICAN ATHLETES OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Author and illustrator, Dwayne Lester, and his bookcover
Nationwide -- Dwayne Lester is an award-winning artist, illustrator and designer who has just released a new book entitled Through My Eyes With a Pencil: An Illustrated History of the 100 Greatest African American Athletes of the 20th Century (available on Amazon). It is not, however, just a book of illustrations.

It is also a historical and educational book for anyone interested in how Blacks have been treated in the US and continue to be treated, even in the sports arena where they excel. The book is especially for young Black athletes and children who need to grow up and know and learn about what they will have to contend with even today.

The controversy
Lester, who is a 65-year old disabled veteran, calls himself the "Colin Kaepernick of the Federal Government." He says he himself has had to fight discrimination while working for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), having to deal with racist hiring practices in the Visual Information field, and having been blackballed and summarily removed from his position.

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE GOVERNMENT STILL REFUSES TO HELP LOCAL BLACK FAMILY WHOSE LAND WAS WRONGFULLY STOLEN 5 YEARS AGO BY REAL ESTATE ATTORNEYS
6 of the 13 I(E)rving family siblings from Saluda, South Carolina
Until now, the family has not received any kind of justice. Furthermore, the state has publicly disrespected the family by honoring one of the fraudulent attorneys, Billy C. Coleman, who recently died.

Saluda, SC -- Attorney Billy C. Coleman (Saluda, SC) died at the age of 103 on March 4, 2019.1 On March 7, 2019, the Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, decided to file, for immediate execution, an Executive Order for the flags atop the State Capitol in South Carolina to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, March 8, 2019, in honor of Billy C. Coleman and in recognition of his extraordinary legacy and lifetime of distinguished service to the State of South Carolina. This, as stated in McMaster's Order, was done in accord with section 10-1-161 (E) of the South Carolina Code of Laws, as amended, which provides that "upon the death of a person of extraordinary stature, the Governor may order that the flags atop the State Capitol Building be lowered to half-staff at a designated time or for a designated period of time."2

As tweeted by Governor McMaster and pictured on his Twitter account on March 8, 2019 at 2:24pm, McMaster felt that his Order was perfectly executed.3

"Actually, this lowering of the state flags for Attorney Coleman really is the fifth time that, within the past 15 years, the descendants of David and Sally Mae (Williams) Irving (Saluda, SC) have been "slapped in the face" by the South Carolina government in regard to our ordeal with Attorney Billy C. Coleman," says Diethric Langford (Indianapolis, IN), a second generation I(E)rving descendant.

It is the latest entry from Culturally Coded Content, a Northern Virginia-based creative writing and nonprofit management firm.  Throughout the pages of Young Achiever Playbook: Planning To Achieve, J. NEW BOOK, "FROM FAT, BLACK, AND UNLOVABLE TO BEAUTIFUL POWERFUL LOVE," TELLS A POWERFUL STORY
Author Barbara Pamplin and her bookcover
Barbara Pamplin died 3 times as a result of heart disease and is sharing her experience to raise awareness about the effects of racism on Black women's health and mental well-being.

Seattle, WA -- According to the American Heart Association, 50,000 Black women die from heart disease every year. Barbara Pamplin was nearly one of them. In the fall of 2017, Pamplin survived an aortic dissection (which is 99% fatal), 3 open heart surgeries, and 3 deaths and resuscitations. But the road that led her to the operating room, and nearly the morgue, was paved with inter-generational trauma she personally experienced from the effects of slavery and racial stereotypes.

Instead of just surviving, Mrs. Pamplin decided to use her experience to help others through inspiration, storytelling, and education. As part of that process, she has written a memoir and self-help book, From Fat, Black, and Unlovable to Beautiful Powerful Love, now available on Amazon.

In this work, Mrs. Pamplin writes about her experience, and documents the many behaviors and toxic beliefs that formed in her youth and persisted throughout her life. The story is as remarkable and unique as it is familiar to most Black women.

"When I talk to Black women about this book, they react with gasps, shudders, and goosebumps. They immediately recognize it, as though I've spoken what's in their minds.

Our core self-beliefs can be toxic and so detrimental. Changing beliefs takes hard work but it's worth it," said Pamplin/

BUSINESSES AND INFLUENCERS CONSIDER BLACK-OWNED PLATFORM AS A SOCIAL MEDIA ALTERNATIVE

Instagram, Facebook and YouTube platform failures position underdog CJC Live for takeoff

Los Angeles, CA -- The contemporaneous malfunctioning of three social media giants on March 13, 2019 left business & common users alike with deep concern about the risk of significant reliance on these "no-cost" platforms. The massive glitches came without warning or solution for over 18 hours leaving users with the inability to post, get messages and for many make money. More than ever, people are wondering if there are any alternatives to the platforms that permeate much of our daily routines.

This is not the first time the world has seen a threat to social media usage as they knew it. In 2014, Facebook enacted its "real name policy" leaving users with the ultimatum of divulging their government identities or not using the platform. Did we really have a choice? After all, who can compete with the Goliath of social media?

CJC Live, a Black-owned "Uber-like" shared economy, believes their platform is the most viable alternative solution for users on other platforms. With a built-in anti "AdPocalypse" component that protects brand presence, ad revenue, and the risk of abrupt demonetization via platform failure or restriction; CJC Live just may be the 'new kid on the block' we have all been anxious to meet.
