"SISTAS ON FIRE! A NEWSICAL" -- A MUSICAL REVUE THAT EXAMINES PRESSING SOCIAL ISSUES FROM A BLACK WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE

New York, NY -- The personal becomes the political when passionately-opinionated African American women speak their minds on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Black Lives Matter, missing Black women and girls, Black-on-Black crime, and male/female relationships in a soul-stirring mix of song, dance, poetry, and prose. The interrelated dramatic monologues range from tragedy to comedy in a "newsical" revue that examines pressing social issues from an African-American female perspective. Sistas on Fire! A Newsical uses theatre to provoke thought, encourage social activism, and build bridges that cross race, class, gender and culture. In short, it's For Colored Girls for the new millennium.

The play opens at the East Village Playhouse from February 22nd to March 17th.
Sistas on Fire! A Newsical was written by Professor Marcia McNair and Professor Anissa D. Moore. Actress, singer and dancer Kwamara Thompson is the Producer. The music is by Marcia McNair, Natalie "Ne'Richa" Richmond, and Juson Williams.

SECOND ANNUAL MARCH BACK TO GOD

Macon, GA -- In the wake of an explosion of crime, poverty and the change in morals among youth, specifically in the Black community, Attorney Roy Miller and a team of social activists have organized the second annual March Back to God on January 21st. "I am tired of our youth dying. If we make the effort, God will make the miracle," he said.

The group is therefore calling on organizations across the country to incorporate a March Back to God walk through visually poor and neglected communities on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day. "Only God heals wounds and youth need to know that," Miller, said. His group hopes the March Back to God will spark a national movement and visually highlight the long-time misuse of Federal grants earmarked for the poorest areas. "Poverty is a friend of Crime," Miller stated.

SHORT DOCUMENTARY EXAMINES THE BLACK IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCE

Nationwide What is coming to America like? That's the question filmmaker Roman Debotch wanted to answer when setting out to make her short documentary film, Coming to America, For Real. Especially, what is coming to America like for a black immigrant?

As an immigrant herself, Roman has always been fascinated by conversations about the trials and tribulations of coming to America, getting accustomed to the culture and language, and then chasing and living the American dream. For her documentary, she had this conversation with three other immigrants: Abdi Iftin of Somalia (Abdi was the subject of an episode of the popular podcast "This American Life"), Laura Silva of Colombia, and Justin Rayside of Barbados.

Coming to America, For Real is streaming now on YouTube. You can watch it here. You can read the article based on the documentary here.

"NBA Ignores San Francisco Racism" By Allen Jones

Sponsored Op Ed: By Allen Jones

NBA Ignores San Francisco Racism, Rewards City with Oakland’s Championship Team
NBA Standout Stephen Curry (Photo Courtesy Keith Allison, Hanover, MD, USA)

In this era of heightened scrutiny of the political and social effects of corporate decisions, the NBA appears to be operating autonomously and without concern. For an organization that moved the 2017 All Star Game to New Orleans because of discriminatory bathroom laws in North Carolina, it is both odd and appalling that the NBA is seemingly turning a blind eye to San Francisco’s inherent racism in blessing the relocation of the Golden State Warriors out of neighboring (and diversity-friendly) Oakland. It is particularly upsetting for a league that is comprised of over 70% African-American players to support the move to an insidiously racist city like San Francisco.

The City of San Francisco lauds itself as a progressive and liberal city, which might be true in theory, but it’s hard to find in practice if you’re one of its black residents. The black community has been continuously bullied and eradicated by the City, and the population by the numbers is subsequently plummeting. Just as with the forced exodus of the Fillmore community, the City continues to pave over black history (like in Midtown) in favor of corporate millions and a veneer of broad-sweeping social concern. Though San Francisco has been largely supportive of its LGBTQIA community, it cannot be canonized and idealized because prejudice is still alive and well, as evidenced by the rampant mistreatment of the City’s black citizens.

Racist neglect and abuse of black San Franciscans can be found in every corner of the City, and often it’s at the hand of the City itself. This past October, the ACLU announced a suit against the San Francisco Police Department after observing evidence of clearly discriminatory arrests from 2013 to 2015. Officers were specifically targeting black San Franciscans while deliberately bypassing dealers of other races.

An Update For Earlier Readers and Survivors

Leading Scholar Still Says the... "Crash of the US Economy is Coming Sooner Than You Think"

The Crash of the US Economy is Coming, Readers, Concerns, and Survivors By Dr. Charles L. Singleton
Yes, my friends, as previously published, Wednesday, November 21, 2018, “The Crash of the US Economy is Coming Sooner Than You Think.”  I recently wrote, “Looking back over the last 11 years, our USA economy is still recovering from its Great Recession of 2007- 2009.  Which simply means, the stock market observable failures (pseudo or artificial values in the equities and other financial sectors; suppressed income and wages, overvalued real estate, and accumulative generational debt), are still with us in my opinion.  In my view from the helm, the United States of America (USA) economy is also sailing rapidly toward overcrowded metropolitan traffic; congested gridlock with failing and outdated infrastructure, and increased taxation.”
And, as I continue to observe, the tremendous economic undercurrent, for many United States citizens, will eventually erase the stability and gradual recovery of the US economy; now within 8 to 12 months from this date.  Burdensomely and undesirably, Americans impulsive buying or purchasing habits are increasingly debt-driven financially.  Today, we have more credit card debt, along with increased mortgage and rental payments, personal debt accumulations, and lingering student loan debt.  Furthermore, the present-day trend of “living paycheck to paycheck” is increasing among US citizens. Recurrently, many Americans have inadequate savings, plus, outrageous medical bills (newborns, teenagers, adults, long-term care patients and the dying).

Moreover, government shutdowns: furloughs, unsettled nervousness involving international trade agreements; major US companies to experience declining dividends and capital gains, such as Apple’s stock falling value on January 2, 2019, plus the continual business closings and layoffs across the country will eventually crash the US economy: e.g., General Motors (GM), some 14, 000 employees are scheduled to lose their jobs.  Furtherance, the impact on the US economy of the 2018 Tax Reform Bill (Tax Cuts and Jobs Act), could have an “adverse effect” on US government revenue intake, and the consumer cost of living.
In addition, concurrently, according to USA Today Story News, and Politics, the skyrocketing exorbitant national debt ($21 trillion) is steadily growing an inflatable federal debt deficit ($779 billion) into $1 trillion for 2019.  And, keep in mind, all US citizens and able-bodied taxpayers, this “Huge Debt” must be paid. Thus, this heightened USA economic dilemma is further worsened by Washington, DC’s executive branch of the US federal government’s fragile pretense and its leaderless situation.

INNOCENT BLACK MUSLIM COUPLE GETS CONTACTED BY THE FBI BECAUSE OF THEIR INSPIRATIONAL TED TALK

Nationwide --  You probably had to read the headline twice but in these times of harassment by law enforcement, it was probably more believable than not the first time you read it. Recently, Rufus and Jenny Triplett, best-selling authors, diversity disruptors and media personalities, were contacted by the FBI.

The first reason for the call was in regards to a Muslim woman that is being held in New York regarding a terror plot and another individual that was in connection with the Boston bombing. These individuals were stated to have been connected to the Tripletts via their cellphone and on Facebook. After further investigation by the Tripletts, they found that the information they were given was not true.

The individuals were not nor had they ever been contacts of theirs via cellphone or Facebook.

African Americans, in particular, are not taking advantage of the the stock market. Statistics show that African Americans are 35% less likely to get involved in the stock market as whites of the same income. BLACK CHRONICLE BOOK RE-ISSUED FOR HISTORIC 400 YEAR CELEBRATION

Nationwide -- Ben Wilson's Black Chronicle Book I 1778-1956, a Black history publication whose time has come, will be re-issued for the year long 400 year celebration of African-American history beginning in January of 2019. HR1242 a bill signed into law in 2018 honoring this celebration, will also honor the many contributions made by African-Americans to the building of the USA, despite Chattel Slavery, Jim Crow and 2nd class citizenship.

Mr. Wilson compiled this classic work from a series of newsletters by Henry Hampton, producer of Eyes on the Prize. Wilson's book, written in newspaper format is designed to facilitate learning, understanding and appreciation of Black history.

A Powerful Story

Black History starts with humanity's birth, but begins in the English Colony of Virginia / U.S. with the arrival of the first slave ship from West Africa in 1619. These Africans and their posterity would later lose their complete freedom in what may be considered the worst crime ever against humanity, chattel slavery.

The company is inviting forward-thinking investors to join them in bringing transformative technology to retail via their Security Token Offering (STO) - a public fundraising round that allows to anyone invest in the future of retail. The minimum investment is $252 and the team is looking to raise $945,000 in a 90 day period.

"It was important to me to be able to raise money from my friends and family, and my community of supporters, many who are not accredited investors," said PopCom Founder & CEO Dawn Dickson, a serial entrepreneur who graced the cover of the June issue of Black Enterprise and was named as INC Magazine’s top 100 Female Founders for 2018. "By raising money through Title II Reg CF I can now take money from anyone, now people can invest in tech company and get in early. Too often I watched under represented communities left out of deals, now anyone can support." The campaign launched right before Christmas and passed $10,000 in the first week.

PopCom will leverage advancements in biometrics, blockchain, and smart contracts to augment its current automated retail platform into a "2.0" version for regulated retail, powering machine-driven transactions in a secure, compliant way. While the company intends to release the technology first as a turnkey vending solution, the software will be built with the intent to integrate with 18 million vending machines and kiosks worldwide, bringing blockchain to the helm of new retail technology.
