EDUCATION AND AWARENESS TO TYPE 2 DIABETES WITHIN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN
COMMUNITY
Chicago, IL -- According to the American Diabetes Association, 13
percent of all African Americans aged 20 years or older have been
diagnosed with diabetes. African Americans are also twice as likely to
be diagnosed with Type two diabetes.
Known as a silent killer, diabetes
has taken the lives of many. One organization seeks to put a stop to
that. Launching today, The Suga Project, LLC
seeks to open up the dialogue within the African American community
about Type 2 diabetes and bring more awareness to healthy lifestyles.
"The numbers are startling," said Natalie Pauls, founder. "African Americans are four times more likely to have an amputation due to diabetes complications. African American women are dying at rates greater than any other group of women in history."
