IOTA PHI LAMBDA SORORITY, INCORPORATED CELEBRATES 90 YEARS AND WELCOMES NEW LEADERSHIP FOR 2019 - 2021

Shreveport, LA -- On Saturday, July 27, 2019, Mrs. Dorothy White of Chicago, Illinois, was installed as the 23rd National President of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated. Her national theme: Business and Professional Women Building the Foundation for Generational Financial Empowerment will further propel the organization to greater heights.

Mrs. Stephanie Dilworth, the 22nd National President from St. Paul, MN, members from across the United States, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, came together in Shreveport, Louisiana to celebrate the 90th Anniversary National Convention of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. They gathered to conduct business, to celebrate chapter achievements, to honor Iota's history and to install new leadership. The Anniversary National Convention theme was Looking Back, Looking Forward, and Imagining. The convention was held at the Shreveport Hilton and Shreveport Convention Center and hosted by the local chapter, Beta Psi.

Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated, the first African-American Business and Professional Women's organization was founded in 1929 in Chicago, IL by Lola Mercedes Parker. Mrs. Parker envisioned Iota Phi Lambda Sorority as an organization that would inspire African American women to seek higher education, to encourage interest in business education and to develop leadership expertise among business and professional women.

During her installation address, Mrs. White shared her vision for the future of Iota... building partnerships with the community, creating entrepreneurship and mentoring programs focusing on training new leaders and building a financial foundation for future generations. She believes that as a community, "we have an obligation to our children to build for the future by promoting financial literacy and empowerment through saving, investing and entrepreneurship." She implored the members to return to their communities and design programs and workshops that would help to build the foundation for generational wealth building.

Mrs. White, the newly installed National President, joined Iota Phi Lambda Sorority as a member of Alpha Chapter in 1996. She has been an active member of the organization having served as chair on several local, regional and national committees. She has also served as chapter president, financial secretary, treasurer and Central Regional Director. She is a graduate of Jackson State University, Jackson. MS, where she earned a B.S. in Sociology. She also received a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Advocacy from National Louis University in Chicago IL. Mrs. White is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the mother of Sandra and Felix and the proud grandmother of Lauren, Jamon and Michelle.
