Empowering Southeast Queens NY Based Guyanese Girls Rock Foundation, Inc. To Host 2nd Annual Honors & Awards Luncheon

Queens, NY – Guyanese Girls Rock Foundation, Inc., will recognize ten (10) exceptional Guyanese women with “Women of Influence” Award, one (1) “Pioneer Women of the Year” and one (1) “Youth Leader of the Year” during its Second Annual Honors and Awards Luncheon. Specials invited guests to the elegant Red-Carpet event include prominent community leaders, elected officials & the Consul General of Guyana to New York.

This year’s 2019 Women of Influence Honorees include: Deputy Inspector Rhonda O’Reilly-Bovell, NYPD Commanding Officer; Ebonee Noel, Actress, “FBI” on CBS; Mala Panda, High School Principal; Veronica Jackson-Wilshire, MD Pediatrician/Child Abuse Activist; Leah Persaud, Researcher, Cellular & Molecular Biologist; Taij Kumarie Moteelall, Artist/Social Activist; Hon. Ingrid Joseph, Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge (Civil); Dr. Candace Cummings, Internist/Clinical Assistant Professor; Sara Gohan, Real Estate Entrepreneur; Denise M. Grant, JD, Partner, Project Development & Finance;  Pioneer Women of the Year Beverley Drake and Youth Leader of the Year Cayla Kumar.

Date:        Saturday, July 13, 2019
Time:        12 P.M. – 4 P.M.

The organization will also award merit and technology Scholarships to two (2) College-bound students from its Young Women Leadership Academy (YWLA); a 6-month program for high school girls that promotes the development of leadership skills through access to an instructor-led course, plus a series of workshops and community activities that expose students to peer leaders, career professionals and female role models.  Established in January 2018, YWLA is held every other Saturday at the Teen Center of the state-of-the-art Queens Borough Central Library.

Guyanese Girls Rock Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated empowering young women to create their own paths to success by encouraging excellence and cultivating an environment where girls feel encouraged and supported to contribute to their communities and the world. Launched in October, 2017, GGRF’s mission is to harness the power of leadership to ignite inspiration among young women and girls.
  
The Guyanese Girls Rock Movement began in 2012 with the creation of the Guyanese Girls Rock Blog; an online empowerment platform that is dedicated to shining the spotlight on many of the brightest and most successful Guyanese women and girls in the Diaspora.
