Jerome Bradley And His Team Provides Warm Coats For The Area's Homeless Children
Life hasn't been easy for Jerome Bradley.  He grew up homeless, in the foster system, and did a considerable stint in prison.  However, Bradley is determined to make a difference helping children who are going through what he went through early in life.  And he is determined to do it the way God leads him.

The following interview gives a glimpse into what drives him to make the world a little warmer for homeless children in our area.  Check it out and consider supporting his efforts.

Kamau: Can you tell us a little about your background and life growing up in Southeast Queens and your period of being incarcerated? Can you also tell us more about your early
life?

Jerome: I was born in Harlem. Was raised in Jamaica Queens Merrick Blvd 125th street.

I was placed in foster home in 1973 to Mrs Bradley. From 2 till 8 yrs old. Placed back with my biological mother at 8 yrs old till 12 and placed back with Mrs Bradley.

Growing up in Jamaica Queens was rough at first due to my complexion. I had my share of drama but in the end and throughout the hood embraced me and till this day I stay true to Jamaica Queens.

I was incarcerated for 12-yrs. I gave my life to Christ and changed my life.

Kamau: What inspired you to start your present organizational efforts?  What services do you offer to young people in the foster care system or homeless?

Jerome: I was homeless, I come from nothing money does not drive me at all -- its a means to live.

So I commit my time and money to help the people in shelters, especially the kids. They are our future.

Kamau: Did you have any positive role models in life?

Jerome: God has been my role model. Mother Walker from Greater Bethel. She would visit the prison and the love she showed and human compassion was mind blowing.

I made her a promise I would join her and do the Lord's work once I was released. I did just that and spoke at a revival...which helped me finance my wardrobe after landing a job. The people filled my pocket with money and I never asked or gave an indication of my need.

Cory Rooney (Grammy winner song writer) he was my neighbor. By looking at his success coming from Jamaica Queens. He rekindled my desire to write again.

I wrote a book to show anyone who lost hope or let their dreams go, you can make it. I am not suppose to be here but God saved me and will do the same for anyone

Kamau: What is the uniqueness in your organizational efforts in contrast to similar youth organizations in the area?

Jerome: I just go out and help. We give school supplies and buy coats for kids in shelters

Kamau: Can you tell us about some of the challenges you've had in building your organization and how did you overcome them?

Jerome: Many say they want change but when it comes to action there are obstacles. I planned a "Let Kids Be Kids Day" at a shelter but was turned down.

We will do it next month on Merrick Blvd. No man can stop God's plan!

Kamau: What do you need to improve your organization and make it more viable and impactful?

Jerome: Loyalty

Kamau: Can you tell us about some of your goals and plans for the future of your organization?

Jerome: The Goal is to put a coat on every child in a shelter - one shelter at a time!

Kamau: What is the best way to contact you?

Jerome: Jeromebradley1 on instagram or Jerome Bradley on facebook
