ATLANTA HYBRID HOMESCHOOL SENDS BLACK STUDENTS ON BIRTHRIGHT TRIP TO GHANA, WEST AFRICA

Atlanta, GA -- "How can you know where you're going, if you don’t know where you've been?" That question is the crux of the movement to expose students early in life to international travel and the beauty of their motherland Africa. How do you explain to Black students in America that they really come from Africa and their ancestors were Africans? Well to put it simply - you teach them, you tell them, and you show them!

The Bradley Academy Inc, founded by Naomi Hill Bradley, is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to the exposure and education of the youth from a very young age. They have been in existence since 2014, educating our future leaders with the tools necessary to thrive in a changing world.

HBCU GRAD Named Latoya Nicole LAUNCHES 2ND ADULT COLORING BOOK TO HELP BLACK WOMEN WITH SELF CARE

Raleigh, NC  North Carolina-based entrepreneur Latoya Nicole has launched the coloring book series "Entrepreneurs Color Too" to give Black women a new method to relieve stress on the go. Her newest book, 80's Ladies, features fashion trends from the 80's and 90's, while her first book, 24 Shades of Business, is filled with 24 inspiring illustrations of Black women in various occupations from CEO to a Yoga Instructor, and has already sold thousands of copies.

Since the book series released it has gotten major press, including Curly Nikki, Black Enterprise, Madame Noire, Official Black Wall Street and more than thousands of books have been sold all around the world. 24 Shades of Business has even been stocked in Barnes & Noble bookstores and 80's Ladies gets lots of wholesale purchases from people who love the 80's and 90's era. The books are great therapy for black women and it highlights the culture in a positive image!


When asked what inspired her to create a coloring book for black women Latoya Nicole replied, "Women can be so self-sufficient and self-sacrificing that sometimes we can forget the importance of self-care. I knew I wanted to create something that I could relate to because representation matters, plus coloring was like therapy for me. Coloring allows us to switch our brains off from other thoughts and focus and concentrate only on the moment which can help decrease stress."

MEET THE ENTREPRENEUR NAMED KIZZY WHO WANTS TO OPEN THE ONLY BLACK-OWNED BOOK STORE IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Nationwide --  Imagine a place where lovers of African-American literature and culture can come together and have their needs met. Kizzy's Books & More, founded by entrepreneur Trenessa L. Williams, MBA, DBA, is that place! It's an online bookstore that sells African-American literature and other products that embrace Black culture. The store, named after the character Kizzy from Roots by Alex Haley, is committed to embracing the African-American culture and the joy of reading.

Taking things to the next level

THE 31ST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND FESTIVAL OF BLACKS IN DANCE TO BE HOSTED IN DAYTON, OH FROM JANUARY 22-27, 2019

Dayton, OH  -- For the culture - By the culture. IABD's Annual International Conference and Festival is a dance lover's playground - a fully immersive experience for all things Black Dance.

Artists and dance enthusiasts can participate in the Dance Master Class Series and train with an elite dance faculty of 40+ international artists spanning 25 styles of dance, including Aesha Ash, Donald Byrd, Baba Assane Konte, and Alicia Graf Mack. Panels and Workshops provide a space to share research and discuss the Black Dance sector and its contributions to the global dance community.

Five performances will be featured over three days, bringing 50 dance companies together on two stages, including Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Philadanco!, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Robert Moses' KIN, Ronald K. NEGRO LEAGUE BOBBLEHEAD SERIES RAISES $56K IN FUNDING WITH KICKSTARTER... AND COUNTING!

Milwaukee, WI -- The Kickstarter Campaign to create a series of officially licensed, limited edition bobbleheads to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Negro National League has raised over $56,000 with five days remaining. The project was launched on December 12, 2018, by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum and Dreams Fulfilled in conjunction with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The goal of the series is to honor and celebrate the league and its players, many of whom were never honored with a bobblehead, while also educating the public about the Negro Leagues and its players.

Two stretch goals have been added since the start of the campaign, with the first being a bobblehead of Effa Manley, the only female in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Since the campaign hit the $40,000 mark, that bobblehead is being produced. If the $60,000 mark is reached, the first Milwaukee Bears bobblehead will be produced as part of the second stretch goal. Two additional stretch goals are in the works if the campaign's momentum continues through the final days. Since the campaign hit the goal, the production process began for several of the other bobbleheads in the series, and Kickstarter backers were the first to see those bobbleheads.


Kickstarter Backers can secure the best pricing by supporting the project before production of the series begins. Several options are available through the Kickstarter Campaign for people wishing to support the project. As soon as the campaign reached the goal, production of additional production process for the remaining bobbleheads in the series will begin and the bobbleheads will be available in the National Bobblehead HOF and Museum's online and retail stores, Dreams Fulfilled's website, www.NegroLeaguesHistory.com, the Negro League Baseball Museum Store and other outlets throughout the country.

FREDDIE AND LISA THOMAS-MCMILLAN LAUNCHES BLACK-OWNED RESTAURANT IN ALABAMA THAT ALLOWS CUSTOMERS TO PAY WHAT THEY CAN

Brewton, AL  -- Lisa Thomas-McMillan and her husband, Freddie, have just opened a new type of restaurant in Escambia County, that feeds people whether they have any money or not. It was 1995 and Lisa was a cashier at a local Walmart. One of her customers had no money to buy the groceries she needed. After speaking with the lady for a few minutes, she realized there were many others who were in the same boat.

Right then, Lisa began a ministry that would eventually become the Drexel & Honeybee's Restaurant. The couple went on to feed thousands of hungry people over the years from veterans to college students.

"People ask us all the time, 'Why do you do it?'" Lisa says. "I can honestly say, it's because God led us here."


The couple visited the local campus of Jefferson Davis Community College. There Lisa noticed two students gathering up change to buy food from vending machines.

That's when she realized that there were probably lots of hungry college students on campus. It wasn't long till they were serving delicious Sunday-style meals for students. All they asked in return? Donations from those who could give.

THIS MOM NAMED Jennaye Fennell AND HER 3 CHILDREN ARE ALL SUCCESSFUL PUBLISHED AUTHORS

Nationwide -- Based in Atlanta, Jennaye Fennell and her three children are all successful published authors. Combined, they have written 7 books in total, and most of their books are based on a series called Fennell Adventures that encourages young people to take an interest in traveling.

How it all started

During a family trip to Hawaii, Jennaye's 9-year old son, Jace, told her that he wanted to write a book to inspire other children to enjoy reading and traveling just as much as he does. After returning home, he got started immediately and soon after released his first book entitled Journey through Hawaii with Jace. He later wrote a second book, Journey through Cuba with Jace.

This made a huge impression on Jace's younger brother, 8-year old Merl; He quickly became inspired to become an author just like his big brother. Merl said, "Mom, I go on these trips too. Can you help me write a book like Jace?" Soon after, Journey through Texas with Merl was added to the Fennell Adventure series. And since then, Merl has written another book entitled Journey through New Orleans with Merl.
