Are There Real Lessons Southeast Queens Can Learn From A Fictional Film?

The Black Panther Movie is on its way to making movie history.  It has become one of the 7 top grossing movies in history.   And also the top grossing domestic/national superhero movie of all time!

The movie based on the 1st fictional black Marvel comic book superhero was made for a whooping 200 million dollars.  It to date has topped $1.2 billion in worldwide box office sales.

Which means it has made over 1 billion dollars in profit for Disney, which owns Marvel Studios.  The Film's scenario is set in a fictional kingdom in Africa called Wakanda.

Wakanda, according to the Black Panther story line, is a highly technological advanced hidden kingdom.  The citizens of Wakanda are brilliant and resourceful people who have access to a precious mineral vibranium that is strong, resistant, and has been engineered to absorb and rebound energy directed at it.

The Black Panther is the protector of Wakanda, and is the duty of its king T'Challa, in a high tech suit, who also has superhero powers.  This film over the years has undergone rewrites and edits by Black writers like Christopher Priest who grew up in Southeast Queens, Reginald Hudlin, and Ta-Nehisi Paul Coates, to become the story it is today that resonates with Black audiences.

The creators and actors improvised the Black Panther film in a way to provoke thought and conversations within the Black community.  In that regard I'd like to suggest 7 lessons Southeast Queens residents can learn from the film.

Hollywood, CA  -- On Friday, April 27, 2018 award-winning actor, William Allen Young of the CBS hit, Code Black hosts the opening gala celebration, "A Great Day in Black Hollywood" at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center that kicks off the 24th Annual African American Film Marketplace (AAFM) and S.E.

Manly Short Film Showcase held April 28 - 29, 2018 by The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC). The popular gala honors diverse leading and legendary professionals, as well as the filmmakers selected for the 2018 S.E. 

Manly Film Showcase ("SEMSFS"), one of the top short film festivals in the industry. In fact, some of the filmmakers who have had their shorts exhibited at the SEMSFS, as they were launching their now extraordinary careers include: Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler; Oscar-nominated writer-director of Mudbound, Dee Rees and writing-directing icon Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Nationwide  -- Andrea Lockhart-Nixon is a new author in the Raleigh, NC area. She has written and published a great book titled, Two Muffins. This is the first in the series, Aaron's Life Journeys. Her next book in her series is titled, The Tool Box, which is due to come out in the spring of 2019. Andrea’s books deal with issues such as bullying, childhood obesity, prejudice within children because of their differences, while teaching the importance of acceptance, diversity, and valuing God's creation.

The book tells the story about a 5-year old little boy named Aaron and a five-year-old little girl named Peggy, who is nick named, "Cutie Pie Peggy," in the book. Peggy is a chubby little girl who loves to eat and is often teased about her weight.

Aaron, in the story, is the coolest little boy in his class. However, Aaron needs to be taught a lesson about acceptance and how God wants us to view others. When the class see how Aaron tease (a form of bullying) Peggy, they begin to do the same. Ms. Molly (lead teacher) and Ms. Joybell (assistant teacher) know they must come up with a plan to teach the children, especially Aaron, how to embrace others and their differences.
