Nashville, TN  Short Cut by Dr. Karen Sloan-Brown (available at Amazon.com) is another great read, faithful to the author's commitment to feature positive Black characters who wrestle with similar challenges that we all deal with in fulfilling our dreams and goals, finding love and happiness, and taking care of family.

The main character, Ernest, is the owner and head barber at the King Cut Barber Shop. He can cut out the likeness of Barack Obama, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X with the words 'By Any Means Necessary' onto a client's scalp with his straight razor that would rival any accomplished artist. He had done all right for himself and his family with a successful business on a rough corner in the hood, except he wanted more.

Nationwide  Avis Brown-Riley, a loving wife, and mother of two children, and a renowned golf champion who was inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions and the African American Golfers Hall of Fame, has completed her new book Building of a Champion: an evoking and provocative true-to-life account about the author's perseverance as a golfer and woman of character.

Brown-Riley conveys through her words a message of hope, optimism, and faith: "When my doctor first told me that I had breast cancer, I knew then that God had chosen me as the miracle of life, and I would be reborn again. Today, my body is pure, and my skin is as soft as a baby, and it is very hard to see my true age."

She continues, "God spared my life for a purpose, and this is my story, and my purpose is to share with the world that you must never give up even when someone discourages you, and prepare for roadblocks in your path. God will navigate you through your journey called life. Whatever path you choose, remember to ask God to take your hand and allow him to walk that journey with you. He will never steer you wrong."

5-Year Old Looks To Teach Children to Save And Invest

Kennedy O’Neal may only be 5-years old, but this kindergartener already understands the importance of saving money at a young age. Her fascination with money actually started while she was still in diapers.

As a toddler, she began stashing money away in her piggy bank and would always on the prowl for loose change in the couch or car to add to her collection. "These days, I've revved up my chores around the house in hopes of earning even more money," stated Kennedy.

According to a 2017 GOBankingRates survey, nearly 60 percent of American adults have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts. Almost 40 percent have no savings at all.

For Kennedy's father, Chris O'Neal, a real estate investor, the earlier you start saving, the more prepared you’ll be for a rainy day. This is the very message he’s instilled in his daughter.

"When kids save early, it sets them up for their future. The burden will be much lighter when it is time to pay for ever rising college tuition. The goal with saving is to keep kids out of their parents' wallet," stated Chris. "The earlier you start saving, the more prepared you'll be for emergencies and the future."
