Rep Meeks Statement on Poland's Legislative Act on the Institute of National Remembrance

"I fear that this law is a symptom of a larger assault on democratic institutions in Poland, including the judiciary, free press, and civil society..."

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, today released the following statement, regarding Poland’s new law on national memory and the Holocaust:

“I am disheartened that President Duda signed the new censorship law, which will have the effect of whitewashing history and curbing discussion about the Holocaust. In free societies, dialogue and honest exchange without censorship is critical. This law undermines that effort. Furthermore, I fear that this law is a symptom of a larger assault on democratic institutions in Poland, including the judiciary, free press, and civil society."

20 Years Of Black Investing

Los Angeles, Celebrating its 20th anniversary, 20/20 Investment Club has launched Campaign INSPIRE!, a national women's empowerment initiative designed to celebrate the power of unity at a critical time in our nation’s history.

Led by the club's founder, Sonya Weaver-Johnson, a seasoned IT executive, the effort is designed to educate and engage women, around the country, about the importance of not only investing, but also coming together for a great purpose. Campaign INSPIRE! is an outgrowth of the club’s motto, "Learning and Earning" together.

"It's hard to believe 20 years have gone by since I mailed the now infamous letter to 20 of my closest friends," Weaver-Johnson said. "In this letter, I shared my wild idea of starting an all-female, investment club and I invited everyone to join me. About two weeks later, and to my surprise, 14 friends arrived at my home ready to hear me out."

Black History Month With Humor

While many Black History Month celebrations solemnly commemorate the lives of slain Civil Rights trailblazers, one group of Black women comedic actors refuses to be solemn. Like Issa Rae, their fictitious talk show, "We Did That!" is "rooting for everybody Black."  Every. single. body.

The talk show parody celebrates any and every Black history "first," however inane. The parade of guests - which could populate any Saturday Night Live sketch - includes: the first African American elbow stunt double; the first Nigerian internet scammer to become a multi-millionaire; and the first Black woman to snatch somebody's edges.
