Democratizing Art Commissions

This innovative program democratizes the traditional art commissioning process, which has historically been reserved for a privileged few. Here’s how ACP is distinct from a typical arts award:

The Role of Art Producers: ACP enables a cohort of “art producers” to select the artists (yes, give away $10,000!), as well as support and execute the awardees’ projects.

The Funding Priority: The program actively supports the creation of new art that will fill gaps in American culture by creating work that tells untold stories, defies the cultural mainstream, or privileges underrepresented identities.

The Neighborhood Focus: To enable community members to commission works in their own neighborhoods, preference will be given to Jamaica and Flushing residents for both roles. However, all Queens-based applicants are encouraged to apply!

How You Can Participate

We are currently looking for both artists and art producers to participate.

Artists may include Queens-based playwrights, choreographers, and composers. If selected, you will receive a $10,000 commission to create a theater script, choreography, or musical score, and a World Premiere performance of your work in Queens.

Artists: wondering which QCA grant you should apply to? Our latest blog post will answer that question!
Art producers may include Queens community members, art appreciators, and artists passionate about supporting art making. As an art producer, you will engage with the artists during the creative process from start to finish, from selecting the program’s awardees to providing support through their world premieres.

Deadline: October 12th at 11:59pm
