Just as the NMAAHC is the only museum of its kind, the Corona is also one-of-a-kind. Each individual pen is numbered, as marked on its top ring.

The ergonomic rollerball pen features a deeply-etched barrel that echoes the bronze-colored metal lattice - or "Corona" - that covers the museum's exterior. The design itself is a tribute to the intricate ironwork handcrafted by southern African American slaves before the Civil War.

The pen is a joy to hold and use, with a twist top, acid-etched texture and matte black nickel accents. It is the first pen to be part of Retro 51’s newly-licensed Smithsonian collection.

Best of all, a portion of every purchase is donated to the NMAAHC, supporting its mission of telling the story of African American life, history and culture.

Each pen arrives in a commemorative tube, which makes it a great gift for birthdays, Kwanzaa and Black History Month. The Corona is refillable with Retro 51 ballpoint and/or rollerball cartridges, so it’s also earth-friendly.

Corona's MSRP is $55. For a list of dealers, visit Retro51.com, where "life is too short to carry an ugly pen."
