(Nationwide) Hundreds of young Black men are losing their lives and freedom every day - at the hands of other Black men, the police or by being locked up in prison. This is taking a tremendous toll on our communities and leaving a huge void in ability of African American families to affect positive change in their communities.

In The Hypocrisy of Democracy in America: A Poetic Appeal For Change, Craig A. Garner's ninth book of poetry, he focuses on what he believes is the root cause of these tragedies - a justice system that fails to give young Black men a chance to thrive and succeed. His works point out the hypocrisy of living in a democracy that professes to give every citizen an opportunity to succeed while striking fear in the hearts of the black American families as they see their young men being struck down and killed by some of the very people who are supposed to be protecting them.

Through the poems in this book, Garner, who is the Poet Laureate of Irvington, New Jersey,
laments the fact that there is no fair way of living in a country when you are not in the majority, when you must face a justice system, a prison complex and a government that seems to be conspiring against you. His poems further delineate the need people to come together as one to address the tragedy and unfairness of our system and stand up for right and justice.
