Dallas, TX - We’ve seen the reports: African Americans comprise just a small percentage of America’s technology workforce, and the problem is even more pronounced among black women.

Meanwhile, as events like those in Charlottesville confirm that racism in America is still rampant across all facets of society, African American political leaders, celebrities, and media pundits emphasize the importance of economic empowerment as a key component in the black civil rights struggle.

The newly launched Nubian Network is poised to help change all of that.

Founded by some of the best and brightest designers and developers in Silicon Valley and beyond, the Nubian Network boasts years of leadership experience that could rival even the biggest technology companies and was developed with four primary goals:

1. To provide a way to vet, and subsequently highlight, high quality African-American businesses and professionals

2. To provide a platform for consumers to easily locate high quality African American businesses and professionals.

3. To provide a platform for other businesses and government entities to easily locate high quality African American businesses and professionals for contract and job opportunities

4. To serve as a watchdog organization for business and professional members in order to protect their reputations and maintain the highest operating standards

And, of course, it has already provided employment opportunities for some of the most talented African American professionals, who have been brought in to assist with the site’s launch, marketing, and administrative tasks.

Even though the platform is designed to only feature companies owned by African Americans, the Nubian Network is inclusive in its usability.

The intent extends beyond making it easier for black shoppers to support black businesses - in fact, there are people outside of the African American community who have wanted to support the ongoing black struggle for equality in this country, but have lacked a tangible way to do so.Instead of changing their buying habits completely, by simply beginning to make regular purchases from black businesses - businesses that are leaders in their respective industries - those individuals can become a catalyst for the economic empowerment that is critical if African Americans are ever going to gain equal footing in this country.

The Nubian Network includes both product and service providers, and it is also national in scope, highlighting companies from LA to NY and everywhere in between. Additionally, and based on the understanding that many consumers avoid black businesses because of a perceived lack of quality, the Nubian Network also employs a vetting process that ensures that only those companies operating at the highest standards may be included.

After applying to become a member of the Network, companies are evaluated on numerous factors including years of operation and customer experience. Membership levels range from Professional (for individual, solopreneurs) to Platinum, for large, well-established enterprises. Once accepted into the Nubian Network, member businesses are required to take the Membership Pledge and abide by the Membership Code of Conduct.

While others view the command to “buy black” as wishful thinking or empty rhetoric, establishment of the Nubian Network has created a community of high-quality, fully vetted businesses that provides easy access for consumers, as well as prestige and additional revenue-generating opportunities for the businesses themselves.
