Nationwide (BlackNews.com) -- Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, has given away billions of dollars in scholarship money.
But if you haven't noticed already, since 2016, the Gates Millennium Scholars Program for minority students has been discontinued. For years, the program awarded scholarships to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students who were enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college program.
However, when the program reached its goal to fund 20,000 students, they discontinued accepting new applicants.
The good news
The good news, though, is that Microsoft still has two programs that are specifically available for Black and other minority students.
#1 - Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) African American Heritage Scholarships are offered to outstanding black high-school seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in technology. #2 - Microsoft Diversity Conference and Minority STEM Scholarships help Black, Hispanic and female students who are pursuing degrees in computer science, engineering, and other technical areas of study. There are also more than 200 other scholarships for minorities from other major companies and organizations listed on www.scholarshipsonline.org
