Making Moves Dance Festival is a unique annual opportunity for New York based emerging choreographers and dance companies to showcase their original works that span the globe and dance genres. The participating artists will not only receive a monetary award, but also be provided with access to rehearsal spaces and an opportunity to showcase their works during the day long festival.

This year, seven selected dance groups will present their works in two bills: a free afternoon outdoor presentation which encourages public participation and an evening stage presentation which features a commissioned work by choreographer Gabrielle Lamb.

Princess Grace Award-winning choreographer Gabrielle Lamb’s choreography blends technical virtuosity and visual poetry to investigate the complexities of 21st century lives. Via this commission opportunity, Lamb and her Pigeonwing Dance company will explore the tension between predictability and surprise, the pattern and chaos in nature, life and arts.

The evening performances are also presented by Russian choreographer Elena Notkina; theatrical and culturally themed Neville Dance; and Kizuna Dance, whose works depict aspects of Japanese culture through a contemporary and hip-hop dance aesthetic.
